Extractions
A dental extraction consists of the removal of a tooth (or teeth) from the socket in the alveolar bone. Extractions are done for a few reasons but most commonly they are performed to remove teeth that have become victim to periodontal disease, tooth decay, or even dental trauma. Wisdom teeth in particular are extracted when they are unable to grow normally within the mouth (known as impacted wisdom teeth). Impacted wisdom teeth can cause infections within the gum. Teeth may also be extracted if the dentition in the mouth becomes too crowded. The extraction allows space to be created within the mouth so the rest of the teeth can be straightened.
